What is the 10 Step Plan?
The 10 Step Plan is an Iwillfly program that reduces fears of flying.
I used it to conquer my fear of heights and as a result conquer my fear
of flying. The idea is built upon two simple principles. The first states
that one must advance slowly and gradually, step by step (Or, in other
words- one must advance by means of desensitisation). The second adds
that one must familiarize himself with his fears and face them face-to-face.
The "10 Step Plan" unites these two principles by enabling you
to gradually face your fears.
What should you do?
Here's the deal. Once a week, every week for the next 10 weeks you will
set aside to complete one goal that scares you. Remember; start with easier,
less frightening goals and gradually progress to more intimidating ones.
I, for example, was afraid of heights and so on the first week I started
by riding on a glass elevator in a mall.
An important thing to bear in mind is to repeat your goal until you are
no longer apprehensive about doing it. It may take minutes or it may take
hours, but repeat the task you set for yourself until you are fully desensitised
and you don't feel scared to do it again.
What I did
Every week, I would do something more intimidating. I walked over the
George Washington Bridge while looking down and I leaned out of a forty-story-high
building. I even rode a ferrous wheel. On the ninth week of my 10 Step
Plan, I rode an elevator of a seventy-story-high building. Keep in mind
that I started out riding an elevator of a four-story-high complex. This
is when I realized that the strategy worked. My tenth and final goal was
to fly on a short airplane ride. I was then able -for the first time in
a very long time- to do so. I flew from New York to Washington on a half
hour shuttle and was surprised to find myself almost completely calm.
I was hardly nervous at all.
What now?
Now that you've learned about the 10 Step Plan put this knew knowledge
into use. Jot down your own 10 steps and begin completing them as soon
as possible.
Also, we have added a new message board forum for your convenience. Use
it to let others know how much you are progressing and read about other
users' experiences. Furthermore, Use the forum to interact with other
members and share support.
